Rhode Island offers its students fantastic, college scholarships. The State of Rhode Island is one of the smallest of all fifty states, but is home to some of the finest colleges and universities in the country, including, Brown University, Johnson & Wales University, Providence College, and the University of Rhode Island. Rhode Island college students have a wealth of educational institutions to choose from to pursue their college studies. Rhode Island administers just one grant, and one scholarship for college students; however, these two college scholarship programs have awarded millions of dollars to help students pay for college. Rhode island Higher Education Assistance Authority

The Rhode Island Higher Education Assistance Authority administers a state grant, solely based on financial need, and a college scholarship based on both need and academic promise. Rhode Island students will need to complete a FAFSA application by March 1, to be eligible for these college scholarships. High school seniors in Rhode Island should continue improving their grades, throughout their final year of school, to ensure they will be eligible for all college scholarships that are available to them.

Rhode Island State Grant Program

• The Rhode Island State Grant Program is a free, college scholarship to help students with a financial need achieve their dreams of attending college. The Rhode Island grant, or scholarship, can be used at any accredited college, or University throughout the country and is available for all four years of college.

• Students need to complete a FAFSA by March 1, to be eligible for this scholarship, awarding free college money. These scholarships, or grants range from, $250 to $1,200, based on financial need and the college student’s expected family contribution amount.

Rhode Island Academic Promise Scholarship

• The Rhode Island Academic Promise Scholarships are a fantastic opportunity for hundreds of college students residing in Rhode Island. College students in Rhode Island need to complete a FAFSA by March 1, and have taken either, the ACT or SAT exam to be eligible for these college scholarships. The scholarships are awarded based on a student’s expected family contribution in relation to their college test scores. A lower expected family contribution amount, combined with a higher test score, would result in a higher scholarship award.

• These scholarships can amount to $2,500 each year, for a total award of $10,000, to help a Rhode Island college student pay for college. Last year alone, 155 college-bound students received these scholarships. Once in college, students need to maintain a 2.50 GPA for their first year.
