Texas Scholarships for College

The State of Texas is known for all things big, and the number of state, and private scholarships available to Texas college students is no exception.

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, administers, sponsors, and provides information on, dozens of scholarships for Texas college students. Texas college scholarships are offered for all types of college students from, financially needy, academically gifted, and students pursuing a specific course of study.

The State of Texas makes it easy for students seeking college scholarships, with its “one stop shopping” website listing over a hundred state, private and institutional grants and scholarships. Texas college students need to complete a FAFSA as soon as they can, and check for other additional application forms that are needed for individual scholarships. Students in Texas should focus on the numerous state scholarships initially, and then go down the list of the other private and institutional scholarships available to college students.

Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, administers numerous state and federal scholarships, and grants for Texas college students based on merit, financial need and field of study. Texas students need to complete a FASFA as their initial scholarship application. Some scholarships have additional forms available on the Texas Higher Education website, others have applications available from the college financial aid office.

Texas college students need to keep track of all the deadlines, and eligibility criteria to ensure they win the college scholarships to pay for school. As always, students should check with their high school guidance counselors as well, for scholarship applications and assistance. Take a look at a few of the State of Texas scholarships below:

Texas Educational Opportunity Grant Program

• The Texas Educational Opportunity Grant Program is available to Texas, college students enrolled in a two-year, Texas state college with a financial need. Additional requirements include, a family contribution of $2,000 or less, and enrollment in college at least part time. Awards range from, $865 to $2,585 per semester, and the award is renewable for up to 75 semester hours of course credit. These college scholarships are restricted to specific state, and community colleges in Texas.

TEXAS Grant Program

• The TEXAS Grant Program, an acronym for Towards Excellence, Access and Success Grant, is a state scholarship program available to Texas college students with financial need. These scholarships are available to students just entering college, or students entering a four-year college with an Associate’s degree. Additional scholarship applications may be required through the college financial aid office. Scholarship awards range from, $865 to $2,640 per semester and are renewable, provided a student maintains a 2.5 GPA while in college.

Engineering Scholarship Program

• The Texas Engineering Scholarship Program, awards scholarships based on merit, to students studying Engineering at a public college or University. Texas college students need to have graduated in the top 20% of their high school class, with a 3.5 GPA. These college scholarships are renewable, provided a student can maintain a 3.0 GPA. Scholarships are substantial at $5,000 per year, and are extremely competitive. Application forms can be downloaded from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s website.
