Utah Scholarships for College

Utah offers some unique scholarships to college students. The State of Utah is known for hosting the Winter Olympics, its many national parks, historic monuments and the Rocky Mountains. The state government of Utah prepares high school students early on, to meet the challenges of college academics with its Utah Scholars program. This program encourages Utah students to pursue challenging courses in Math, Science and English that can lead to lucrative college scholarships.

Utah college students need to be proactive in seeking out sources of scholarships for college. Academically gifted college students in Utah can expect to be eligible for merit based, state sponsored scholarships that can pay for a substantial portion of college tuition. Utah college students, with financial need will be eligible for, state scholarships awarded though the financial aid offices of participating colleges. Utah college students in the middle, both academically and financially, will have a tougher time in Utah finding college scholarships.

Utah college students will need to research all sources of both public, and private college scholarships to win the scholarship money they need for college. College students need to complete the FAFSA, and all other college financial aid forms, and applications, very early to make sure available scholarships don’t run out. Outlined below are a few Utah college scholarships to consider:

Regents’ Scholarship

The Regent’s Scholarship is a merit based, highly competitive college scholarship program administered by the State of Utah, to award high school seniors who have completed a rigorous course of study. Utah college-bound students need at least a 3.0 GPA, with at least a 2.0 grade in the established core courses, to be eligible for the Regent’s Scholarship’s base scholarship of $1,000.

Utah students, who have earned a 3.5 GPA with at least a 3.0 grade in all of the core courses, and an ACT score of at least 26, will receive, Exemplary Academic Achievement Scholarships that pay for 75% of college tuition for two years. For those Utah college students, that can meet this academic challenge issued by the State of Utah, the scholarship awards are extraordinary.

Horatio Alger Utah Scholarship

The Horatio Alger Utah Scholarship fund awards scholarships of $5,000, to 25 college-bound students that are residents of Utah. The Horatio Alger Utah scholarships can be used for Utah colleges as well as out of state schools. Utah scholarship applicants need to have at least, a 2.0 GPA, proven community involvement, financial need and U.S. citizenship

The Horatio Alger Utah Scholarship, college application must be completed online by October 30, with all supporting documents received by that date as well. Utah college students need to write essays describing their college education and career goals, adversities faced and overcome, and a personal comparison to a member of the Horatio Alger association. Sons of Utah Pioneers Scholarships

The Sons of Utah Pioneers, awards dozens of college scholarships each year, to Utah college students that show financial need, and the virtues of “tomorrows pioneers”. Utah college students need to write an essay explaining how they overcame challenges, and diversity in their lives, with a pioneer spirit, and show academic promise, but not necessarily good grades. College scholarships awards range from, $500 to $1,000. Students can obtain a scholarship application through the contacts listed on the Utah Pioneers website, or from a school guidance counselor.
